New School Record Among Highlights at SEC Conference Invite

Dexter opened the season traveling to Lincoln High School to compete in the SEC Conference Invite. All 14 SEC schools were represented in the invitational to kick off the Track & Field season. For the Boys team, Dreadnaught highlights include Cole Sheldon winning both the Pole Vault at 15’3”, and taking 1st place in the Long Jump with a jump and personal best of 20’7.5”. Finishing out the pole vault competition was Clark Sheldon taking 5th, at 12'0",and Kaden Korcek finishing 7th with 10'0". The High Jump saw Senior Jumper Sam Fitzpatrick taking 2nd place with a jump of 5’10”, and Keaton Murphy-Walstad finishing 4th at 5’6”. Rounding out the field events was James Livingston, placing 7th in the Shot Put with a toss of 42’3”.


On the track, the sprints were led by Cole Cabana taking 1st in the Boys 60m with a personal best time of 6.98, and Micah Davis placing 3rd in the 200m with a mark of 23.06, his best time as well. Two Dexter Relays placed; the boys 4x400 finished 5th with 3:39.53 with the team of Jonny Adamczyk, Micah Davis, Kyle Sutton, and Alex Hoffman. The 4x800 finished 7th with 8:44.00 with Owen Ackerman, Brandon Anderson, Zach Sawin, and Josh Lamb.



There were also quite a few top performers for the Lady Dreads. Leading the way was Senior Thrower Jamie Giese, breaking the School Record in the Shot Put, winning the day with a new record of 37’7”. The previous record of 36’8” had stood as the school record since 1995.


Continuing in the Field events, with the Pole Vault, Dexter placed four with Sophia Mettes winning at 12’3”, Ella Gasiorek tied for 3rd at 9’0”, Ellie Manly was 5th with 8’6”, and Bethany Simons was 6th at 8’0”. On the Track, Meghan McGill ran a personal best and was 7th in the 400m at 1:06.17. The Dreads also placed two in the 800m run with Hannah McComas taking 5th at 2:32.91, and Amanda McGill finishing in the 6th spot at 2:37.73. Annissa Sisson was 5th in the 3200 at 12:51.57.



Finishing out the running events, Dexter placed 3 relay teams. The 4x200 was 8th with Brooklyn Whitehead, Gracie Burns, Hannah Berenson, Mikala Sposito finishing at 1:54.62; the 4x400 was 8th as well with Berenson, Burns, Meghan McGill, and Whitehead with a time of 4:31.02. And the 4x800 was 6th with a time of 10:38.10 with Amanda McGill, Hannah McComas, Annabel O’Haver, and Alena Blumberg.
